I broke my Synaptic. WAH!

It's a fresh PCLinuxOS install. When I open Synaptic in GUI (or CLI), I get this:

http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index...ch=12829;image

[root@localhost ~]# apt-get install synaptic
E: Vendor block FingerPrint is invalid
E: Vendor block Name is invalid
E: The list of sources could not be read.
[root@localhost ~]#

Can I restore Synaptic from the LiveCD? Is there ANY way?

You can use apt-get to remove and then reinstall Synaptic. Run these commands as root.
Code:
apt-get remove synaptic
apt-get install synaptic

Hey there SJ...

I tried the 'install' command, but it doesn't execute (gives the same 'no read' message).

I'm a little tentative just yet about 'remove'; I think there might be a cli entry that gets the validating 'key' where it belongs...

Synaptic is just a GUI front end to APT. It looks like you've somehow messed up the APT configuration. This will be difficult to diagnose and repair by means of forum dialog. Maybe someone else will be able to contribute to this task. Otherwise I would suggest that you use Google and use the documentation at debian.org regarding APT configuration.

Yes, it would be hard to solve through forum dialogue, except I knew what to look at - just not last puzzle piece in front of me...

Solved here:
