I am trying to update my Kubuntu but can not get the exclusive lock to open

I am getting this message, E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem. I do not know what to do with this. Can someone help me? I have 160 updates to install. Thanks for your help.

Open a Terminal and:

Code:
sudo dpkg --configure -a
Copy & paste the output into your reply, good luck!

This is what I copied into the terminal. "sudo dpkg --configure -a" Did it tell me to copy something else. I did not see that. Sorry
