I am sure it has been discussed... but I could not seem to find a clear answer.

What video player and why?

I use (like) Rhythmbox for my music player.

I am a keep it simple sort of guy, I would only one video player...

So which one?

VLC

XINE

TOTEM
-if so which version (totem-gstreamer?)

**OR** Someting else??

And most importantly... WHY?

use multiple players because none seem to play everything. The combo of mplayer and vlc seem to cover most everything I need to play. Given something which I can probably play in either, I tend to prefer mplayer, because it starts up more quickly.

I like mplayer a lot for stuff on the web, because it can be embedded in the browser, but for dvds, I like xine...it allows the use of dvd menus (unlike mplayer), and doesn't seem grainy to me (unlike ogle and totem). I'm not touting any as the best, just these are the ones I like.
