Talking I am a NEWBIE!!!! Yum is killing me!!!

I am doing a project for my linux class and we are configuring yum files so we can make the updates how we want them. I go and type yum check-update and it gives me this:

Repository updates is listed more than once in the configuration
Setting up repositories
core [1/4]
base [2/4]
Cannot open/read repomd.xml file for repository: base
Cannot find repomd.xml file for base
Error: Cannot find repomd.xml file for base

What is this???!!!!

how do i fix it?

another question is how do i configure my repository so i can change what i want updated.

If someone could reply on how to fix this it will be greatly appreciated!!

Homework? LQ rules state that we don't do your homework. Why don't you try the YUM website first. Go to the Wiki for the documentation.
