I've a problem with integrated audio hardware

Hi;
beside all excuse me for my poor english.

Then:

i've an integrated audio hardware on motherboard Asus,
well known as Ac97 Via8233.

I've Linux mandrake 9.1, and use KDE.
Mandrake has found and installed it;
but, although I have regulated all the channel audio to the top (using Kmix and Aumix, and under the shell using 'amixer set ...'), I obtain a volume that is less than 1/2 of the volume I obtain with Windows (on the same machine, with the same audio speakers).

Is this a driver problem?
or are there other particulary commands to obtain a better volume ?

Thank you.

If you're using the OSS(Lite) drivers, try the ALSA drivers. If you're using the ALSA drivers, try the OSS(Lite) drivers. I believe both sets have drivers for VIA 82xxx chipsets. I've had good luck with the ALSA drivers on my laptop, which has a VIA 82c chipset. I have had similar problems with both sets of drivers on other hardware.
