I'd like advice on the best forum software
Hi, all:
If you were me (mega web skillz, java programmer, linux n00b with delusions of DBA), what forum software would you use to attach to an e-commerce site you were developing? I'm working on a LAMP stack, so it needs to be modular in nature, easy for me to understand (hopefully written in Java or at least another OOPL so I have some clue), and it definitely needs some kind of GUI frontend that's compatible with Kubuntu.
I'm not sure about java, but it would be trivial to implement one of the many PHP forum scripts with whatever site you're developing... and it would work better with the LAMP setup anyway. While PHPBB2 seems to be the most popular, I personally like FUDForum and have linked it before with several other scripts.
Really, the information you'd be sharing between the e-commerce site and the forum is bound to be user information like their username, and password, etc. With that in mind, you're really looking at linking the Database (MySQL) between the two and not the actual scripts.
I was a Java programmer before I turned to PHP, so I can feel you're pain. I found PHP easy to understand after learning JAVA and fell in love with it. At the very least FUDForum's code is well documented and easy to understand, and as a added bonus the developers are very friendly and helpful.

I'm trying to stay fully OSS; how well do you think FUDForum will integrate with PostgreSQL (as opposed to MySQL)?
