I'm trying to install ubuntu 14.4 from 10.10. I converted windows 7 to ubuntu but I
 

could only load 10.10 for some reason. As far as I can tell windows 7 is gone., but it will not let me load the newest version of ubuntu. I have tried downloading from a disk, a usb, the network I guess. I am not proficient enough to use torrent.

I keep getting errors like could not mount, can not find archieve, and unrecognizable. Can someone let me know how I can get this done? I really am tired of windows and I used ubuntu 12.4 and was really happy with it...

1. grab a working computer
2. install Unetbootin and prepare usb stick with latest Ubuntu
3. set bootable device in bios when bootin on your computer
4. install ubuntu to hard drive

10.10 hasn't been supported for some time so no point in installing it. The newest long term support is 14.04 but if you have 12.04 on a CD/DVD or flash drive, use that. It will be supported until April, 2017 giving you two more years. In that time, you can upgrade directly to 14.04 if you wish.

How old is your hardware? You seem to be mixing terminology, downloading would be getting the Ubuntu iso on your computer. You would then need to put it on a CD/DVD or flash drive and use that medium to install it. It might be a good idea to review a couple of tutorials. The first link below is the Ubuntu site with instructions to install only Ubuntu and overwrite anything on the disk. The second is a lot more detailed with very useful information.

I have tried to upload ubuntu 12 and 13. I'm sorry if my terminology is not understandable...Still learning lol...Is there a way to over ride ubuntu 10, say in bios, then load 14 from there? I've been trying to get this done for a few days...I have a 32 bit system...It was windows 7. Memory is 2.9 GIB, Processor is an intel core (tm) 2 duo cpu, available disk space is 414 GIGS...Any help? If more info is needed I will gladly send it...

If you burn the Ubuntu iso file to a DVD as an image, there should be an option in any burning software, you would then put the DVD in the drive, reboot the computer and enter setup/BIOS and change the boot priority to put the DVD drive first. You would then be able to install Ubuntu to a partition. You can install over the current Ubuntu 10.10 by selecting that partition and formatting it or create and/or select any other partition. Probably a good idea to review one of the tutorials linked above.
