hylafax and smartlink winmodem

ciao
I'm using suse 9.1 eval on a laptop acer aspire 1400
I succeed to send a fax by the modemof my cell phone usb connected with kdeprintfax and hylafax
but I found a problem using hylafax, when i try to install the smartlink modem (it is a winmodem but run correctly with other application nd connecting to internet) using faxaddmodem ttySL0 hylafax give me this answer:

Probing for best speed to talk to modem: 38400
OK.

The result of the AT+FCLASS=? command was:

ATQ0V1E1
OK
AT+FCLASS=?
ERROR

We were unable to deduce what type of modem you have. This means that
it did not respond as a Class 1, Class 2, or Class 2.0 modem should.
If you believe that your modem conforms to the Class 1, Class 2, or
Class 2.0 interface specification, then check that the modem is
operating properly and that you can communicate with the modem from the
host. If your modem is not one of the above types of modems, then this
software does not support it and you will need to write a driver that
supports it.

have you any suggest??

I tried to duplicate and modify the configuration file of USB modem but does not run.
is there any possibility to avoid automatic configuration of modem without asking the class, because in the install readme of smartlink driver is indicated as class 1
many thanks
