I just tried a clean install. I uninstalled Bluefish and renamed its directory in my account .bluefish.bak. I then reinstalled Bluefish. I ran validation and got this message:

The command "tidy -qe '/home/chris/Website/somesite.com/somefile.html' exited with error code 256.

The Tidy filer displayed a pop-up window stating:

Command returned error code

The command tidy -utf8 exited with error code 256.

It does add the Tidy generator tag to the code, however.

At least the error codes are consistent.

Just so I can understand this, what is a "Tidy filer"?

I probably wasn't clear on this. I use Tidy to () validate my code and (2) to clean up (mostly to indent tags) my code.

I have removed the unnecessary '%i'|.

Now both validation and cleaning up of code return the following:

Command returned error code

The command tidy --write-back yes exited with error code 256.

Tidy also still puts in its generator tag. So, as you said, Tidy's working as it should. The error message is an annoyance, but I could live with it if I had to.

Ok, good stuff. Shame about that error message. What I would suggest is that you contact Bluefish (home page: http://bluefish.openoffice.nl/index.html) and tell them about the problem. Bluefish 2.2.9 has now been released so it's possible that a bugfix has now been implemented - you could think about installing the latest version.

Thanks for the advice and the help, hydrurga. I am truly grateful, especially considering the time that you put into this. I'll follow the provided link and look into this further. Thanks again.
