Howto restore lvm2 after OS reinstall?

I have done some reading on lvm2, and I have a pretty good understading of how it works, and I have tryed setting some disks up using lvm2.

But there is one thing I have not yet understood. What do I have to do to my lvm if I have to/want to reinstall my OS ? I saw that vg had a function vgcfgbackup and vgcfgrestore, is it those cmds I use? Should I use vgcfgbackup to back up my lvm before I install new OS and vgcfgrestore to restore my lvm after installation of new OS ?

I have searched on google and looked through man pages and online manuals, but im still not certain that these cmds are what I need.

So if u can gimme a little help, link to stuff I can read or anything plz do so

I use debian with source testing and kernel with [*] Multiple devices driver support (RAID and LVM)

btw do I also need <*> Device mapper support ?

thank you
