Howto fix split horiz screen in XF86Config

Howdy.
I've got an almost perfect install of a LiveCD distro on a Sony Vaio which uses a screen resolution of 1024x768.
There's a sourceforge page about these machines and I borrowed an XF86Config and XF86Config-4 from there and it made a huge improvement. The screen looks great. . . but there's just one little problem.
The screen is split where what should be the bottom of the screen shows up on the top of the screen followed by a black line a few centimeters thick and then the rest of the screen that should be the top is at the bottom after the black line.
Other than that, the thing is awesome. Totally flicker free, the mouse works great keyboard is good.
So, where's a good place to look for answers?
I've already played heavily in the "Screens" section and gotten rid of any virtual desktop configurations. I've also changed the lineload settings till it was too tweaked to start.
