HOWTO add places to Time Zone selector

QUESTION: How does one insert additional names into the list of places in the time zone selector?

The time zone selector utilities have a long list of city names representing each of the various time zones.
For example, for USA Central Time Zone, the list shows "America Chicago." Other well know cities in the same time zone include
New Orleans, St. Louis, Dallas, Houston, Oklahoma City, Tulsa,
Kansas City, Green Bay, Minneapolis, St. Paul ... I could go on.
Most folks know their current city and time zone, but may not know about the [sometimes very short] list of cities in the TZ selector.

QUESTION: How does one know the offset from GMT/UTC/UCT for any
given place in the time zone selector? I only see city names.

Yes, I'm primarily interested in the USA where a given time zone
includes a large number of places one might visit on business. These questions might apply elsewhere, but I don't travel there.

Cheers,

Is this under KDE or GNOME? I know that under GNOME you can select the "Edit" option from the pulldown menu when you click the clock bar on the top panel, and from there you can type in a city name and it should find it's latitude and longitude for you. If it doesn't, you'll need to enter that info yourself, I believe. I'm not so sure about KDE, though; I don't use it.

All times are GMT -5. The time now is 04:40 PM.
