how to view a DVD Movie from an .iso file?
I have the latest version of Ubuntu
I would like to watch a DVD movie from the .iso file
I don't have a burner on this machine,
The movie is a downloaded iso file.

Which software can I use to make a virtual dvd drive
Alcohol 120% was recommended but it's for windows.

Debian would be good of course but I'll try anything.

I have Mplayer with many codecs and it will play the video but not the sound.
"too many files ... buffer ...?" error message is too fast to read properly.

Thanks for any help.

An .iso file is a type of archive, try using Ark or something to extract the files to a folder.

In Xine, there is a command line option to tell it where to look for the DVD device, I just point it to the ISO file. Mplayer might have the same thing, as a last resport you could symlink /dev/dvd to the ISO file.

You could mount the image using a loopback option.

#mount -t auto image.iso /mnt -o ro,loop,unhide,uid=yourusername

If you have mplayer you can just enter

mplayer /path/to/file.iso
You don't need to mount the iso first.
