HOW TO(?): user for proftpd, not allowed to SSH

What I am trying to do is to have user that has access to proftpd but should not have access to shell (ssh).

I tryed to add /bin/false into passwd in the user entry but after that user was unable to login both ftp and ssh.

Why ? That should works!
Any suggestion what am i doing wrong ?

Which is the passwd file you are using? You have to keep passwd for proftp in a file different from /etc/passwd. Then you must specify the path to the passwd file in /etc/proftpd.conf, e.g.
Code:
AuthUserFile /some/dir/proftp.passwd
To create users for proftp you specify the file as in
Code:
ftpasswd --passwd --file=/some/dir/proftp.passwd <other options here> --shell=/bin/false
The users created in this way will have access by proftpd only!

Make sure that /bin/false exists and that is also listed among the valid shells in /etc/shells
