How to Use Keyboard for Typing Charachters in Elinks?

Hi! I use elinks web-browser. It is very convenient. But I can't use my keyboard to type words. For example, if I need to fill in a form like "username" and "password" to enter LinuxQuestion.org forum, there appear various menus as if the keys in elinks were meant not for typing but as hot keys to turn on/off various function. Or maybe I misunderstand something?

Use the down arrow to move to a text field on the web page. Then press enter. After pressing enter, you can start typing into the field. Password fields work too, including not echoing your password to the screen.

If it helps, look at the status bar at the bottom of Elinks. When I am on a text field, the status bar says "Text field, name NAME (press Enter to edit)" where NAME has the name of the text field (userid, or whatever the web page is using).

Thank you, Valdis Grinbergs. It's hard to figure out , if the problem is so easy to solve.
