how to use hdparm
could somebody tell me how to use hdparm to save battery time?
i installed it with the KDE frontend but that does not work, only in terminal. and i don't understand nothing about using the command line... |
if you have the "man pages" installed
man hdparm you really need to read this yourself, so you can set it up how you need it...... hdparm -i /dev/hdx will give you alot of info about a particular drive so you can set the flags properly.. |
thanks for the reply, i just read the man pages but even if i choose the right flags how do i make hdparm to start automatically everytime i boot in order to extend the battery time a little?

I cannot tell you which settings to use, you need to find out yourself (not all hardware is the same).
Here are 2 usefull links that will get you going (explanations + examples): http://www.linuxdevcenter.com/pub/a/...29/hdparm.html http://linux-sxs.org/housekeeping/hdparm.html man hdparm will show you all options and their meaning. Hope this gets you going. |
