how to upgrade to kernel 3.4
 

hello I have kernel 3.2 on suse 9.1, how can I upgrade this to kernel 3.4,

Is this even possible or do I have to get a newer version of SUSE linux?


Please let me know what I can do, If I can get kernel 3.4 how do I go about upgrading my computer.

I think you mean KDE 3.2 and 3.4. Yes, you should buy Suse 9.3, which comes out in a week or so. The kernel version is 2.6.

now that you mentioned buying SUSE 9.3, when I purchase the software and upgrade my computer do I retain all my files etc. especially things like the DVD playback rpms that I installed for xine? In other words will the upgrade alter any enhancements that I have installed for programs and revert them back to their original state?

by any chance do you know how I can copy and paste a picture off of either firefox or konqeror using suse 9.1, I right click on the pictures but the copy option does not appear. there are other options like copy image location and copy image to file but not the regular copy option. I try highlighting the picture and press copy but whenever I try pasting it in openoffice or any other program all I get is a blank bitmap square.

When upgrading any OS, you should backup your critical data. Your preferences may or may not be saved. This applies to Windows and Linux. There are no guarantees when upgrading, because some projects advance by light years and others remain stagnant. So it may be possible to gracefully migrate one thing, and then have to remove and reinstall another in total.

And when using any web browser, you right click and hit "save-as". I don't know where you get the idea of copy in a web browser. I have never seen it.
