How to uninstall XMMS from RH8?

Hello everybody,

I'm using RH8.0 now and there is a "xmms 1.2.7" which is original come with my RH8.0 while I install my RH. Now, i have downloaded a newer version of xmms *(1.2.10) from www.xmms.org and i have installed it into my RH8.0 system.

So, it means my RH8 BOX now is having 2 ver of xmms which is:

1) xmms 1.2.7 *(originally embedded with RH8.0)
2) xmms 1.2.10 *(i downloaded from xmms official website and installed to my RH BOX)

Previously, I'd installed "apt-get" and after i finished the updating process, the below message came out and show me that my RH8 now is having multiple ver of XMMS. Please refer as follow:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
warning: apt-0.5.5cnc6-fr0.rh80.1.i386.rpm: V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID e42d547b

W: There are multiple versions of "xmms" in your system.

This package won't be cleanly updated, unless you leave
only one version. To leave multiple versions installed,
you may remove that warning by setting the following
option in your configuration file:

RPM::Allow-Duplicated { "^xmms$"; };

To disable these warnings completely set:

RPM::Allow-Duplicated-Warning "false";

W: You may want to run apt-get update to correct these problems

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I just don't know what can i do for remove the older version of xmms which is came with my RH8. Can somebody show me about how do I do for solving the problem.

do this as root

#rpm -qa | grep xmms
[Output]
xmms 1.2.7
xmms 1.2.10

#rpm -ev xmms 1.2.7

the above command should uninstall the older version of xmms [xmms 1.2.7]

You can either uninstall the old one or rename it.

oh? the above way which UsualTuxpect showed me is not uninstalling the program? Then what the above command doing? and how to i Uninstall? is that using the command called : redhat-config-packages? please explain for me as I'm still a newbie in linux.

Note: Previously I'd use the redhat-config-packages but the computer seems just hang over there when after i selected which program is to be uninstalled. I'm not sure is it the computer is hang or not. What I know is I just waited for a very long time for that and I still can do another work by opening another x-window. Thankyou

The command that UsualTuxpect gave will work but the syntax is wrong. Try "rpm -ve xmms-1.27" as su or root to remove or uninstall RPM.
