How to tweak IMAP email client for dialup?

Hi, I have a slow dialup connection and an IMAP email account. I prefer POP3 because it downloads all messages, which I can then view offline. But I'm using an IMAP account anyway because I check my email from many different OS's and locations. Is there a way to configure my primary email client (Kmail in MDK 9.2) so that it downloads all message headers AND bodies in one shot, or is there a way to make it cache messages that I have read for offline viewing? I read somewhere that this is possible with IMAP in general, but I don't know how to set it up with Kmail. Thanks for the help!

Exactly my question too, and how do I mark mails for delete on the server?
