How to turn off software RAID?

I've been messing around with Scientific Linux, and it's pretty cool... But on boot, the kernel loads modules for software RAID, and this is a problem, because it slows my boot down by about thirty seconds. Does anyone know how I can turn software RAID off?

First unmount the RAID from where you mounted.
using
# umount /data // if the raid /dev/md0 mounted to /data

To stop the RAID

# mdadm --stop /dev/md0

and also remove entry in /etc/fstab
