How to switch off all X-Servers..

I just found the nVidia graphic drivers for my graphics card, and I'm trying to install them at the moment. However, the error that I'm getting tells me that I need to switch off all the X-Servers that I am running. How do I go about this?

I am running SUSE 10.1... :(

run "init 3" as root to drop to runlevel three. this is only temporary and will not persist across a boot. you can also get back to full x login mode with "init 5" once you are done. you don't really need to do any of that in my epxerience... just better safe than sorry i guess.
