You might want to check out this offering that's on SourceForge: http://webcamstudio.wiki.sourceforge.net/
I am probably not the best person to be answering this, as my experience is limited to remote viewing of our security cameras.
We use a live feed from USB and wireless networked cameras but you can stream video files that you have already captured to your hard drive, through either USB or by way of the capture card.

While not exactly a webcam per se, you might want to check out qik.com. It offers a Java-based plugin for your Java-based cell phone (which is what most phones are other than iPhones and WinMobiles) which will then allow you to stream live onto qik.com video from your cell phone. I have used it on my Nokia E51 phone and have been happy with it. The cool thing about qik.com is that it allows you to switch from private to/fro public as well as download the videos as mp4, flv and 3gpp. So, with your cell phone, you have a mobile webcam!
Hope this helps.

I usually run it through a tv capture card first. This makes the files smaller and easier to handle. The best way I've found it to convert the resulting file to swf and embed it into a webpage.

A more detailed description of the problem would be nice:
* Do you want to store a file that can be watched on demand, or do you need a live stream from action in front of the camera to the web?
* What format are you trying to stream in? This is probably mostly based on what format your clients can cope with.
Possible real-time streaming servers include
http://www.flumotion.net/ (ogg theora)
http://developer.apple.com/opensourc...ing/index.html (MPEG-4)
or if you really must
http://osflash.org/red5 (flash video)

Hello;
about flumotion :
When device is selected as Tv card ,flumotion gives this error:
Internal GStreamer error.
Posted on Sat 03 Jan 2009 06:47:33 AM EST.
Tv card is ok because XawTV and Tvtime can capture it.
and about Red5 , after installing it how should it be run ?
about DarwinStreaming after downloading it's source and running install script ,how should it be run .

Windows users probably won't be able to see the Flumotion stream because they won't have Ogg Theora support. If they have Quicktime then they can see MPEG4 streams from DSS, if they have Flash then a player for Red5 can be embedded in the web page.
I've not used DSS/MPEG4IP for ages, but basically you are using mp4live: http://mpeg4ip.sourceforge.net/docum...readme=mp4live
I've no idea for Red5, but either the site or Google probably has (I used to use Flumotion with a firewire DV device, but it was always quite hard to set up).
