How to start kernel?


Can anyone tell me what is the first command to play with kernal? Pls tell me I am so interested.

help will be highly and truely and thankfully appreceated.

I want to learn to tweak kernel for networking. I want to know the basic commands. Thanks... I have experience in windows but not on linux

worse is i am networking student

still not with you.. please explain what you think you can tweak.... there are commands to load and unload modules, modprobe, rmmos etc... is that what you're after??? there is no such command as "docoolkernelstuffnow" i can assure you....

Thanks moderator,

I don't even know how to start. I want to learn it for everything about networking...don't even know how to start...I just have a linux box RH9 with me now that's it I just know the basic commands

Some of them differ to a degree, but for the most part they are the same. rm will remove files on any distro, mv is always to move/rename files, chmod always changes the permissions, etc. etc....

I cannot think of very many commands that differ among distros.

What is it that you are trying to acheive by tweaking the kernel? Is you network card working in Linux. Is it on par with its performance in Windows? What exactly is it doing that you need to edit kernel settings.
