xxxxxx@xxxxxx:~$ compiz --replace
Fatal: Failed test: Composite extension
Checks indicate that it's impossible to start compiz on your system.
what checks? what does it check for and can i fix the situation? i'm running debian etch and i installed the packages from Shame's repo. ati driver working fine:
Code:
xxxxx@xxxxx:~$ fglrxinfo
display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: ATI RADEON 9600 Series
OpenGL version string: 2.1.7769 Release
Does your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file have Composite enabled?
Below is the composite section of my /etc/X11/xorg.conf file. And I use 'Fusion icon' to start Compiz Fusion with KDE, it's in the repositories.
I now prefer to just run this guy's script for setting up graphics driver (Nvidia or ATI) and configuring the xorg.conf file properly in Debian Lenny or Sid. Works great, just run the command below and hit enter a couple times and you'll have 3D graphics capabilities without headaches.
Code:
cd /usr/local/bin;wget -Nc smxi.org/sgfxi;chmod +x sgfxi;sgfxi
