How to setup sendmail, please help me
 

what I want is from linux FC8 machine it should send mails to external mail ids using external smtp ( mail server is on windows 2003 & required access is given to linux machine ip address).

here is the internal hostname of smtp mail server

testingserver ( not the exact name )

linux machine name localhost

please let me know what things needs to be changed in linux sendmail ( please use my example name & help me ) configuration file



sending mail using telnet is working fine but not through sendmail...
I tried all things on net but totally I was unsuccessful...

please help me..

Sorry, you did not "try all things on net".

If you'd like help, what version/distro of Linux are you using? Also, there are MANY simple, step-by-step how-tos that you can find on Google for setting up both sendmail and postfix. They have examples, and walk you through the whole process. We're not going to reproduce those guides here, and you've really given us no information to work with.

Check those guides, put together a config, and test it. If it's still failing, come back with a *SPECIFIC* error/problem, don't just ask us to configure your sendmail server for you. Hint: if your Windows server is the relay for all your mail, you need to define that as your smarthost.

thanks a lot..your hint worked...now im able to send mails outside...really I went through so many sites I didn't notice this smarthost thing

That's normally the very first thing that's mentioned in 90+% of the tutorials. Since you 'tried all things on net', it's surprising you didn't see it.
