How to setup sendmail?

I want to setup a sendmail server for my home network. I think sendmail will work, see what i want to do. Is i want the server to download mail for each user from there pop account, then store it on the server's harddrive. Kind of like a microsoft exchange server. I want to set something up like that. Can anyone help. Let me know what would be best to use and how to set it up, or where to find info on how to set it up. thanks.

ok

what you will need for a basic set up is
fetchmail - this will login into the pop3 accounts. download the mail thats there and pass it onto ur MDA

sendmail - this will do all ur mail server tasts

maybe
mailscanner and spammassin installed along side ur sendmail for that nice virus scanning and chekcing of spam. i use these and i am very pleased with them. and its fast
virus checking for mailscanner could be somethink like f-prot they do a free one for home use. also camAV fully free and open source :)

serch google for the links.

do u have sendmail and fetchmail installed? what distro are using.

well u could involve some procmail as well the u can do some nice stuff to ur mail but i dont think u need it, you could use many other MTA like qmail etc, but mailscanner dosnt work with qmail, or it did;t with the last version i looked at..

im gussing u will allready have fetchmail installed on your system, i dont know about sendmail tho. type whereis sendmail and see what it comes up with.
