How to set a shortcut key to output a string to whatever writable field cursor is on.

I want to set a shortcut that will write my email address into whatever writable field my cursor is on. I know about settings -> Keyboard Shortcuts -> Custom Shortcuts but have been unable to find a command that outputs a string.

Your profile says Ubuntu 20.04. Does it mean you're using GNOME?

Anyway, see How do I setup keyboard macros? @Ask Ubuntu.

I updated my post above. The short answer: install autokey-gtk or xdotool.

<solved> How to set a shortcut key to output a string to whatever writable field cursor is on.

Got it! Don't know how, but it works.
I brought up autokey and found my key already defined in Sample Scripts.
I don't know how it got there, but it is good.
It did not come from my settings definition because when I changed the string there it did not change in autokey.
When I want to do this again I will go straight to autokey.
Thanks
