How to run Office 2003 on Ubuntu 9.04 with wine

I am running Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope on a Toshiba Satellite A45 S120 2.6Ghz 256Ram, 40GBHD, I am running Windows XP Home Edition, with Office 2003 on another partition. I unpacked and installed Wine on Ubuntu (not sure which version, it already was on Ubuntu 9.04), and how do I now run Word, and Excel? I can open the File Browser and access winword.exe on my XP partition, but when I click it it doesn't open without error message. I don't know what to do.

Microsoft Office is really needed? OpenOffice is not enough?

... if MS-Office is really needed, don't run the executables directly from a Windows install: like said, run his setup again on Ubuntu, trough wine

if you try to run ms office from the installed on XP drive , in wine, you will end up corrupting the Microsoft system registry in XP

if you MUST use the old MS office 2003 ( can not open the new office 2010 .docx format)
run it FROM XP !

Well, you can install format compatibility update on wine MS Office 2003 for .docx files.
