How to run a java script?

How do you get a java program to run?
Downloaded Sudoku from Sourceforge.
Extracted the tar.
But can't find any 'readme' or 'install'.

The usual routine is to open a shell, cd to where the file is, and type (assuming the name is sudoku)

java sudoku
or
java sudoku.class

If that fails, you need to look into downloading a JVM/JRE (java.sun.com) and/or setting a CLASSPATH environment variable.

that's the source code, have you looked for a executable version?

to get the version you have running you'll need to download the java development kit and compile it yourself

Could you post a link to the place where you found it or something like that? There appear to be several sudoku programs on sourceforge and I'm not clear just which one you are referring to.

btw, sudoku can be installed straight from the repositories for most distributions. Have you checked yet?
