How to retrieve forgotten root password?
 
Dears,,

I installed Oracle database on Linux
I can only log in to Linux server by database user
But I forgot the root password and cannot log in by root.

Please,how to retrieve root password?
Please,help me ASAP.

As corp769 pointed out, this is VERY well covered on Google, and has been answered here many times too. Did you bother to try to look this up, before asking for "ASAP" help??

And if clicking on that link is too much trouble, then boot your system from a CD/DVD, and enter rescue mode. Mount your hard drive, and then edit the /etc/shadow file, and remove the password field for the root user. Or just use the passwd command to change it.

Hi,

Does the given link work on none redhat based distro's?

Some sane ( :) ) distro's do require a (root) password when booting into single user mode (debian, sles, lfs, ....).

A live CD comes to mind in this case.
