How to resize a partition

Hello,

My fdisk info reads as follows:

Disk /dev/hda: 120.0 GB, 120034123776 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 14593 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hda1 * 1 13 104391 83 Linux
/dev/hda2 14 14463 116069625 83 Linux
/dev/hda3 14464 14593 1044225 82 Linux swap

I want to shrink hda2 to give some spare space on the disk. How can I do this?

Thank you very much.

Peter

Depending on what filesystems those partitions are, you can rey using one of the resize utilities (as root, type resize and hit [TAB] a few times to see the list.

If you plan on doing this regularly, however, it would be worthwile to invest in Partition magic - it's an awesome program for manuipulating partitions and is well worth the cost.

Haven't done it but I believe 'parted' can resize as well. However, it's not a built in package...you need to download it.

See if you can get a copy of Mandrake's diskdrake to work on your distro. Excellent partition manager program.
