How to reset console VGA mode after boot?

Hi,

I'm using Slackware 10.2. Recently I installed bootsplash. Everything works fine, but, my theme needs a resolution of 1024x768. So, I passed the kernel parameter "vga=791" in my /boot/grub/menu.lst file. I do use the console a lot. So, I find that the size of characters is too small.

Is there anyway I can bring resolution back to 800x600 after the boot.

It depends what framebuffer you're using. VESA can't switch modes after booting, some can (with fbset). But why not just use a bigger font? The fonts are under /usr/share/kbd/consolefonts, you can load one with setfont.

I tried it the problem is that the freezes when I try to set the font from my startup script. I think that bootsplash puts the screen in grpahics which is causing the problem. I tried,
Quote:
echo "off" > /proc/splash
That fixed it. But, I want the splash screen back while shutting down or rebooting.

Mine is a VESA device. Is there any other way out??
