How to recover the root password?

As I forget the root password, any method or tool can retrieve it?

You can boot into run level 1 and then change the password for root there, of course that's if you have physical access to the (yours?) machine, if you dont have physical access, i don't think so :P

See if you can boot up in single mode. Enter single at the boot prompt. If that doesn't work, then enter in the boot parameter "init=/bin/bash". This will boot straight into a bash root shell. Then enter the "passwd" command.
hit enter and it will ask for your new password twice.

In short: you can't recover it but you can change it booting your machine in single user mode or with some kind of rescue cd.

See the box with title "Similar Threads" at the bottom of this page ? You'll find different ways of doing it there. A search on the forum would have lead to the same result. You even have the opportunity to search while you try to post a new thread by clicking the "Search for similar threads" button once you entered your subject.

Good luck changing your root password, Cheers.
