How to reconfigure GCC search directories

When I issued the command: "gcc -print-search-dirs" on my stock/updated RedHat 9 system, I get a long list of search directories which include many duplicates, and also several "misguided" paths (e.g. /x/y/z/../../y/3.2.2.

How can I reconfigure my system so that the standard/installed gcc search paths are more reasonable ? Thanks, Scott.
