I'm familiar with similar threads and http://xchm.sourceforge.net/ and http://archmage.sourceforge.net/, and HelpExplorer-2.1, and the possibility of installing Konqueror ( I use Gnome).
What is my best bet and what are the problematic dependencies?. In other words what is it that I have to look out for?. Thanks a lot.
For a Gnome desktop you'll want to use gnochm. I haven't had any dependency problems installing it, though I've never tried on Suse.
Thanks a lot for your reply. Look what happened to me. I didn't know I had Konqueror installed. I made it start from the command line; when pointed to the file, it asked for an application. Another guy in another forum had suggested kchmviewer with Konqueror, so I installed it with YaST, and the next time I pointed to the file, it popped up immediately. I'm all set. Thanks for your help and the help of others.
Ubuntu 9.10 Reading chm files Installing Google Earth
Ubuntu 9.10 (pronounced Ooboontoo, I found out) has links to four viewers in it's Main Menu under Ubuntu Software Center: Free Software. ChmSee and xCHM are the best. Scroll down to ChmSee, for instance, double click on it and a window opens. You can click on install at the bottom and it downloads and installs. automatically.
To use it, you can right click on a chm file and choose it under Open With, if it isn't already there at the top. It is also placed in the Main Menu under Accessories.
I updated to Ubuntu 9.10 from Ubuntu 3.10. It's an option under Update Manager in 3.10 and maybe your version too.
Also to install Google Earth: download the file, right click, choose Open With, then Other Application and at the bottom click on Use A Custom Command. Type in sh and enter. It installs automatically.
If you have trouble reading the fonts in Google Earth, try updating your video card driver in Update Manager to a newer one.
