How to simulate keyboard input?

If any of you remember, yesterday I made a thread asking how to get a button that pops up a menu.
Anyway, I found out that a keys can be set to pop up the menu!
So, now I just need to make a button "push" those keys when I click it.
How can this be done?

After some intense googling I found this:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/xmacro/

It does the job .

So, here is what my side menu looks like now. Clicking the star brings up the menu.
