How to program in C in linux?

I am trying to do C programming in linux. The default shell I use is bash.
Is there a shell to do C programming?

This is because when i type 'gcc -ansi hello.c -o hello.c' , there is an error message saying that the command is not found.

What command should I type to get to the correct shell ?

you should have gcc unless you didn't install the development stuff. to make sure that it's installed, type this command:

rpm --query gcc

if it's not installed, then you can install them from your redhat cds.

No there is no shell to do C programming, you simply edit your files, compile and go. The reason you are getting the "command not found" error is because gcc isn't installed. Install it and the development libraries that you need.

an editor to write C program ? Emacs for example and use xterm to compile.
a graphical interface ? snavigator or grass for example
a graphical interface for C program ? like FLTk ( ) or glade ( on gnome ) or kdedevelop ( on kde ) .
