How to print a 'mail' message

In Linux's internal mail program, the one that gets daily logfiles, etc ... how can I get a hard copy of a message out to my printer?

well it's not the mail program that gets these outputs, it is simply the program you are using to read (what i assume are...) standard mbox mail files, in /var/spool/mail/username. now most mail clients can read these just fine, including thunderbird, kmail, evolution etc... and you can do whatever you want with them there. it's also possible to directly read the file and copy and paste whatever you feel like.

Actually, it turned out that the messages I was interested in were in /root/mbox.

the #mail command told me that after I started looking at it in the light of your instruction. Using a regular email client to look at files owned by root was problematic, but a terminal window, su -, and 'nedit mbox' made easy work of it.

you might also like to use a console client, like pine or mutt.
