how to play *.dat files in Linux?
i can't play VCDs using mplayer
getting the message that file format not supported is there any method to play *.dat in mplayer? |
well you should be able to play vcd's AS vcs, not as a normal file...
mplayer vcd://1 etc... |
i tried the options
mplayer -vcd /mnt/cdrom/mpegav/aveseq01.dat mplayer vcd /mnt/cdrom/mpegav/aveseq01.dat but the same error |
recompile mplayer then and see what it says about vcd support in the configure list

argh, that .dat file is ment for stupid windows systems :D, if you want to play VCD using mplayer, try:
mplayer -vcd 1 where 1 is the vcd track you want to play. FAQ: http://www.mplayerhq.hu/DOCS/cd-dvd.html#vcd |
oh blimey i didn't even read that did i?
yeah i did say to NOT play the file, but the device.... vcd://1 (equivalent to -vcd 1 but the newer syntax) |
yeah ...thanx now i can play VCDs :)

Anyone knows how to use gmplayer to play VCD with .dat file? Currently, I can use "mplayer -vcd 1" to play movies but I want more features with gmplayer. However, gmplayer does not seem to see .dat as a vcd file. Appreciate any advice.

Just found it by right clicking on the window and use VCD to submenu ... so on. Sorry about the confusion. However, I can do fast forward or rewind. Is there anything I can do? Thanks in advance.
