How to open SVG (SVGZ) images?

I have Slackware 10.1, and I installed KDE 3.4 which come with an icon theme called "monochrome". All the icon are in .svgz format (that must be the same as .svg), but how can I open them in what program. The icons work in KDE but I can't open them in kuickshow or gimp.

You can open it in Inkscape
