How to open a wps (MS works) file in open office 1.1

I'm not sure if this is the correct forum for this but I need to open a wps file (basically a microsoft word file) in open office. Whenever I try to open it it asks for what filter. I'm still pretty new at using 'nix and I'm not sure which to choose. I've tried txt but that errored. Hopefully I'm using the right termenology so that you understand what I'm asking lol. I don't have the original. It was e-mailed to me and I need to try and open it before tomorrow. I'll be up pretty much all night so any responses would be greatly appreciated!

I've only seen wps files back in the days of
wordperfect 5.1 dos (I think), and of course
as an acronym for os/2's workplace shell...

What is it supposed to be?

Cheers,
Tink

I think wps is the extension for MS Work text documents. There is currently no filter in Oo for it, but i guess your friend could save her files in rtf before sending so you can read them.
