open a port and autostart services?

hey all..

yesterday i have installed fodora core 3 in text mode on my test server (it`s just a local pc) and from the start i have had problems :P

first it were the dvd rom reader...
than it was lynx
than it wad webmin

and webmin is the biggest problem
I installed the server as a test server but to test REAL things!! so i enabled the firewall to the high levels.. but now i got a problem

when i type this on another pc: http: // 192.168.0.202 : 10000 (i`m not allowed to post a url yet so sorry for the spaces in it.) it gives a CONNECTION REFUSED error.. that`s because port 10000 isn`t open or public.. and i have no idea how to open it or make it public

so can someone explain me how i open port 1000 in the firewall? i don`t have any idea what kind of commands i need to use for that.. but i do have ssh access from my other pc to remote control the server.

Now for the services problem. does anboddy know how i turn a service on be default when the linux thing is restarting? it`s easy with webmin :P or with a GUI installed fedora core 3 but i didn`t do that because i wanted to test my limits in text mode.. and my limits aren`t exactly high as you guys see :P

Thanx alot for any reply`s.

To turn your service on, use chkconfig from the command line. "man chkconfig" for details.
chkconfig -35 service-name on
will probably work (3 starts it in text mode boot, 5 in graphical boot).

Are you talking about a firewall built-in to Fedora or a physical firewall box "between" the two computers? If it's Fedora, I'll have to leave that question for someone else; I don't use it. Sorry!

Ah, thank you for that. I'll file it away in the dusty cabinet that is my brain; I'm sure I'll need it at some point.
