How to make KDE-Light
I don't know if anyone has ever used PocketLiunx http://www.gnulinux.de/pocketlinux/ but I really like the DE. It is like KDE, but it uses Openbox, the only true KDE componet is KDesktop (Is that the program name? The one that draws the desktop) I love this DE but I don't really like PocketLinux. It doesn't seem to be too active, and I don't really see the desktop environment as a viable reason to switch from Slackware. So here is my question: How can I make KDE-Light (as Pocket has named it) on Slackware?
Here are some pictures and info to work from: From pocketlinux's website: " As windowmanager we use openbox, because itīs very lightweight and easy to handle. To provide a kicker like panel, we have modified the gtk+ based fbpanel. We tried to provide a continuous look & feel on all, QT and GTK based applications." And here is the pic: http://gnulinux.de/pocketlinux/images/Screenshot1.png I'm using Slack 10.1, any answers would be great! |
http://www.simplekde.org/
http://sourceforge.net/projects/simplekde this is a project i am keeping an eye on hopeing it will pick up speed and momentum and more support from the KDE community. |
Thanks, but I'm not sure if that is exactly what I'm looking for... any other sugestions?

the site is okay for me, although I noticed that sourceforge looked different.

I just noticed it is back up. But it just seems to be a simplified version of KDE. I am looking for a less resource-intensive DE. I like KDE, it is just very slow on the laptop I'm using, Pentium 2 266MHZ, with only 128 megs of ram. So, does anyone know of a window manager/desktop manager that uses less resources? Like I said, the DE of PocketLinux uses less ram so if anyone can tell me how to recreate that it'd be great!

I like IceWM, with firefox, abiword, gaim, xchat, etc...

Use fluxbox it is awesome. You can run all your gnome and kde apps in a fast lightweight window manager. I can't think of one faster than flux. good luck.
