how to make it fast


hi iam a new guet and iam a new user for linux
i would like to ask how to make linux fast in copy coz i feel it is less fast than windows (when i use total copy)and when i asked about that some said there r setting that must be selected but the dont know these settings
can any body tell me how to make it fast

One thing to check out would be the DMA settings for your Hard Drive.

As you haven't supplied any details of Disto, hardware, etc we can't go any deeper than that.

What distribution are you using? Some distributions are
known to be faster - like Slackware, Gentoo, others?!?,
but they are more geeky (so you'll need to learn). Also
GNOME and KDE are slow window managers. Xfe or others
are faster.

i used fedore 3 ,fedora 4,slack 10.1,suse 9.3
and i seen that linux is so slow in coping and moving than windows
and how can i check the dma
