how to kill a process in linux - Fedora 17?

Hi ,

I am using Fedora 17.
When i try to kill a process forcefully, it is not getting killed.
I tried the following options.
kill -9 <pid>, killall <process>, pkill <process>, kill -SIGKILL <pid>, kill -SIGTERM <pid>.

But still the process is not getting killed.

Also, after that i could not kill any of the process that i bring up.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions and guidance.

Regards,
Vivek

That release is obsolete and you have no compelling, valid reason to keep using it.
So please either install Fedora 19 or 20 or choose a distro with a release cycle more to your liking.

What's the actual process you're trying to kill?
Does 'lsof -Plwnp `pgrep processname`' return anything afterwards?
