You shouldn't double post on LQ. Read the rules.
About your problem: well, you use RHEL which is enterprise distro, and is mainly used for servers... I doubt sys admin would watch videos on his server but anyway:
Download source from vlc web page... After that extract the tarball to any folder (ie Desktop). Now navigate to that folder:

su
provide your root password
Code:
cd /home/your_username/Desktop/vlc
./configure
make
make install
and wait until it compiles the source. That's the "hard" way.
The exiting way is to try this!
The safe way is to find a vlc .rpm file (for Fedora, Cent OS, maybe even openSUSE) and install it.
