First, Dreamweaver does NOT work on Linux. You MIGHT be able to get it working under Linux via Wine, but it depends on the version.

Second, you don't tell us what version/distro of Linux you're using, or what version of Dreamweaver. There is probably a tomcat package you can install via your online repos. Without knowing what Linux you're using, can't tell you how to install it. Check your online repositories, or Google, and they probably already have release notes and instructions.

The WINE compatibility database says that WINE provides some Dreamweaver functionality.

Nevertheless I wouldn't spend all that money on Dreamweaver only to have it crippled or buggy.

I think that TB0ne's comment about providing more information is worth repeating. Different distributions of Linux behave differently. You should always identify the distribution and version of that distribution that you are using. If you are not using Linux yet then mention that in your post.

As I mentioned before, if you have already purchased Dreamweaver then I would not bother trying to run it on Linux.

If you still want to try to run it on Linux then you will have to run it under WINE or one of its derivatives.

The link in my previous post contains some information about using Dreamweaver under WINE.

There are several web page design tools available in Linux. I am using Kompozer. I like it. I have found that web page design tools do not seem to have the features of Dreamweaver. I guess that's why people pay $2600 for Dreamweaver.

Not sure you will get Dreamweaver to work on Linux.

As far as tomcat goes...
  • Create a 'tomcat' user
  • Install JDK as root
  • Unzip tomcat to a directory
  • Run tomcat's ./startup.sh script

I know this might sound "elitist" or "minimalist" but, I just use "Gedit" and "Firefox" with "Firebug" installed.

Man thats a lot of air quotes, i must say so myself.

I'll also chip in with the token "You shouldn't be running such an old distro, fedora 11 is obsolete now" comment.

I remember when people used to write Postscript documents by hand in a simple text editor. These days that idea seems silly. Hopefully one day we will have a decent web page authoring tool that will make hand editing web pages seem as silly as hand editing Postscript documents.

I also can recommend Kompozer. The one criticism I have is that the "edit source" tab is kind of clunky; it's easier to edit source in a good text editor, such as Kate. They can be used simultaneously.

There is also Quanta Plus, but it seems to have stalled a couple of years ago.
