Question How to install Software on linux SuSE 9.2

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone could give me help on installing software onto SuSE 9.2? E.g. i'm trying to install unreal Tournament 2004 which is also made for linux. I'm ok until its just about to start to install and it comes up with this message.....

"Please mount the Unreal Tournament 2004 Play disc CDROM. Choose yes to retry, No to cancel"

Although the game only comes on one DVD disc and it is already insterted into the DVD drive. What should i do to try and get it to install?

Help would be much appreciated......

i have found it best to copy the installer script to your harddrive and run it from the hard drive instead of from the dvd.

Other tricks i have used when encountering the dvd mount problem:
open another console, and as root, type:

Code:
mount /dev/dvdrecorder /media/dvdrecorder
or whatever the path to your dvd drive device and respective mount path

to unmount and unlock the drive after installation:
Code:
**as root**
umount -f /media/dvdrecorder

hope this helps. If not. search the forum, it has been addressed several times.

This is the path of the UT 2004 DVD disc

i think...... file:/media/dvd/linux-installer.sh

What do i need to do to that command line or path or whatever you call it to "mount" and get it to install?

Open a console and try running:

$ export SETUP_CDROM=<path to mountpoint of dvd device>

which in your case would be:

$ export SETUP_CDROM=/media/dvd

assuming the info in your post is correct. Then run:

$ /media/dvd/linux-installer.sh

The first command indentifies the path to the dvd drive mount point and is sometimes necessary for the installer script to find the dvd drive.
