Im trying to install some software called test disk on Fedora.
In windows id just go to the site download the file, double click on it and id be away. With Fedora. Nothing happens. I got files on my desktop, i double click on them and nothing happens???
How do you install software in Fedora...? it couldn't be any less intuitive if it tried.
It might be a bit out of date (it is about Fedora 6) but start at http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Fedora_fc5 You should, where possible, use the package manager "Yum"
Linux isn't windbloze. Fedora uses a package manager called Yum. You will need to configure the repos ( mirrors ) that contain rpm packages for your system. Once that is done, you use Yum to download, and install the software.
Any linux system when it downloads and stores a file will set the permissions to not executable. Clicking the file will not work by design. If you want to destroy your installation, then you can change the file to executable ( that is assuming this is an executable linux file ) and try to click it. Your system will then try to run it. If it is a binary file, there may be some type of script to install it, but I'm not there, so I have no way of knowing, and you didn't say.
Look for Yum in your start menu. Do some reading to understand what you are doing first. The time will be well spent if you are serious about linux.

Rep:
Fedora has a Gui program called add and remove software to install or un install programs
You also can use yum if you like
Ask for terminal become su
Run the command Yum install package name
IF you like to use yum with a GUI run the command as su
Yum install yumex
You can use RPM
