Smile How to install RHEL using image (dd file) from a remote location?

Hi, I have a Desktop running in a remote location. It has RHEL 5.6installed on it.

I also have a laptop which too has RHEL 5.6 along with some very necessary softwares.

I created an image of my laptop's hard disk (a dd file). This dd file basically contains RHEL 5.6 and Some necessary softwares.

Now, I want to this image to be installed on the remote Desktop without physically going to the its location as it is situated very far.

What I meant by saying this is that I want to upgrade the OS in the remote desktop using a network without physically going to its location.

*My laptop is connected to the desktop over an ethernet connection.

Can I install it this way? If yes please help me how can i do it!

My ideas: I thought of Remotely logging into the Desktop through telnet and then
1. Restart the system (Desktop)
2. Access its BIOS
3. Set "boot from a network/server" -> I dont know if this is possible or not.
4. Set the network's path as a path where the "dd" file is located
5. Reboot the system.
6. Install the RHEL image.

Also tell me if "dd" file can be used directly or not? or do i need to convert it into other format.

any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I only know of two good ways to install a new OS on a remote system:
  1. Use ILOM, DRAC, or similar, along with "media redirection" (so that you can mount a local image or CD remotely); or
  2. Have someone that is physically near the host boot the remote system using install media (or a live CD), and then configure the network settings so that you can access it and complete the installation.

I think the documentation on this link may help you: http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO...l/article.html
